Andalucia Bike Race 2014

We're back from our annual race around Andalucía and the boys done good.

The six day stage race, which this year centred around Jaén, Andújar and Córdoba was a fantastic mix of great trails, atmosphere and pain!

We found two beautiful cortijos - Spanish farm houses - in the months before the race and based ourselves there for the six days. We dealt with all the logistics, Sarah was our chef for the week and all the racers appreciated not having to worry about anything except their riding.

We had four teams at this years race: Pure Mountains, Pure Mountains Bob, Cheshire Crankers and Apollo. Fred from the Apollo team was very poorly after stage 2 and had to retire, leaving Derek to plough on alone for the rest of the race and he finished with a huge grin on his face. John and Jonathan from Cheshire Crankers had a demoralising series of mechanicals but, again, fought on and finished the final stage. The two Bobs completed every stage and finished a brilliant 8th in their category. Tim and Gary (despite Tim's fairly scary dive off a cliff on Stage 2) had a splendid week and finished 5th overall in their category. We all had our ups and downs with mechanicals, crashes, exhaustion and an amazing sense of achievement when we all finished the last stage.

Roll on next year!
