In July, Tim and Jenny from Pure Mountains went on a mountain bike trip (of course) to northern Spain.
We spent two days exploring the Sierra de Gredos, a range of mountains to the west of Madrid. There are a series of waymarked trails, established by Centro BTT Bajo Tiétar. It was very hot, so we went out early and tried to stay on the forested trails.
Then we moved on to the central Pyrenees (Aragón region). We spent a wonder-struck couple of days exploring a small sample of the 100s of kilometres of waymarked trails of the Zona Zero mountain bike centre in Aínsa.
The crowning glory of the trip was a weekend of racing enduro at the Big Ride Spanish Open based at Castejón de Sos, in the middle of the fantastic Puro Pirineo trail network.
The Big Ride race was amazing. The route was 48km long, with 2,078m of climbing. There were four amazing timed sections, which were 100% rideable. The liaison stages were challenging and the timing was tight. Fun and exhausting. Just what an enduro race should be! Tim came 3rd in his class and got onto the podium. Jenny was 8th woman.
