Hiking Adventures
We offer guided hiking as an alternative activity during our bike holidays and also on standalone hiking vacations.
Essential Sierra Nevada Hiking Holidays
The southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain range are called La Alpujarra. It is a walking paradise. There are endless trails, ranging from ancient paths between the villages to remote trails that traverse the high sierras.
You’ll take a captivating journey that blends the best of trail exploration, challenging climbs and descents and backcountry adventure, while immersing yourself in the rich history and culture of the area.
As you walk the trails, you’ll experience the diverse landscapes and also uncover the fascinating history and culture of La Alpujarra. It is known for its charming white villages which weave stories of ancient Moorish influence and the resilience of its local communities. Our guides will show you the traces of traditional farming practices such as acequias (irrigation channels), and eras (threshing circles).
En route, you’ll immerse yourself in the diverse flora and fauna of La Alpujarra and the unique ecosystems that thrive in this rugged terrain
Group Size, Routes and the Hiking Day
With a maximum of eight people per group, our guides ensure personalised attention and support throughout, making your hiking adventure an enriching cultural and natural experience.
The routes vary, depending on the make-up of the group, the weather, and the time of year. We have a huge range of altitude, from 2200 metre mountain tops to 700 metre valley floors. You’ll pass through a variety of micro-climates on the way.
We usually walk from the lodge’s doorstep (at 1650 metres) straight onto the best Sierra Nevada hiking trails. Some days we complete a loop back to the farmhouse and other days we finish our hike much lower and transfer back up to the farmhouse in the support vehicle.
Walking days run from 10.00 to around 16.00. Being a centre-based hiking vacation, unlike a point-to-point bike tour, you’re not under time pressure to get to the next place. You’ll walk at a moderate pace, giving you time to stop for a packed lunch and to appreciate the breathtaking views along the way. The average day is about 15km in length.
These hiking holidays are designed for enthusiasts who will appreciate the untamed beauty of this deserted and rugged hiking paradise. To get the most from these walks you’ll be a fit and sure-footed hiker!
